Xcaret
Enjoy a Day at Xcaret Ecological Water Park on the Riviera Maya
No trip to the Yucatan Peninsula is complete without a day or two spent at Xcaret Ecological Water Park. This idea for this park was conceived in 1984 when Architect, Miguel Quintana Pali uncovered the natural beauties of the area and decided to create a public park where the citizens of Mexico and the world were able to explore and enjoy nature at its very best. There are so many things to do and see at Xcaret Ecological Water Park. From enjoying the flora and fauna to relaxing in the water to exploring the underground rivers and Cenotes found in the area, there is bound to be an activity every member of your party will enjoy. One of the highlights of the park is the Mayan village. A visit to this village will take you back in time to the golden days of the Maya. Artisans dressed in traditional attire will amaze and entertain you as they create art using techniques they learned from their Mayan ancestors. Enjoy the unique architecture you will see exhibited in the buildings of the village. And knowing that the very ground you walk on was once inhabited by citizens of one of the largest Mayan ceremonial cities will make the experience that much more meaningful. Of course adventures in the water call your name as you enter the park. Whether you are interested in Scuba, Snuba, Snorkeling or Swimming adventures await. If you have always longed to swim with dolphins or sharks, then now is your chance. Perhaps you wish to explore the mysteries of an underground river. And if you just want to relax and enjoy the warm sun, then you can do so at one of the white sand beaches. The thing that makes Xcaret so enjoyable is becoming acquainted with nature and ancient culture in one of the most beautiful regions of the world. You will be surrounded by exotic trees and plants which provide the habitat for unique creatures such as howler monkeys, iguanas, deer, flamingos and tapir. Walking through the butterfly pavilion or taking a raft tour on the Paradise river will bring you closer to nature. After enjoying a day of fun and relaxation, spend the evening enjoying a spectacular performance of ancient Mayan sport music and dance. Learn about the respectful relationship that existed between the Maya and the land they called home. Then travel through time to the conquest of Mexico and the defining moment when two races met. This evening show is sure to delight you as you witness the children of Mexico sharing their culture and heritage through song and dance. Xcaret is located 35 miles south of the Cancun Mexico International Airport, and 4 miles south of Playa del Carmen. The park is open 365 days a year. You can travel from either Cancun or Playa Del Carmen to Xcaret by bus, or you can charter private transportation through the park when you make your reservation.
