Wonderful week at RPRM (Riu Palace Riviera Maya)

by Atic96
(Houston)

Just returned from a wonderful week at Riu Palace Riviera Maya. This is our 3rd time in Cancun/Playa area, and the best so far. Riu has done a great job at this resort. The grounds are beautiful with truly palace like setting. The pool was big and nice, plenty of manmade beach, and service was impeccable. To simplify our experience:

The bad:
1. Noise: walls are thin and can hear noise in the morning from hallway. We didn't find it overly bothersome.
2. Beach: hurricane did damages, but of all the resorts nearby, RPRM probably has the best manmade beach, and useable natural beach with sandbag blocking the waves. It's the best in the area.
3. Water activities: 5 out of 7 days there were no sailing or any water activities due to wave conditions. Bummer.

The good:
1. Service: it's the best of all the RIU we visited, including Riu Palace Mexico and Las Americas. Victor at Sports Bar, Miguel at the Buffet, and shaggy haired Carlos kept our stay very pleasant and interesting. PS: Victor is the guy to ask about all the best clubs and bars in Playacar, and he can get preferrential treatments for RPRM guests.
2. Room and resort condition: room was junior suite, so it's large and very nicely decorated. Resort was kept in top shape (seemed nicer than Royal Hideaway).
3. Location: very close to the town, and many ppl walk to 5th ave. We had a rental car, so it's extremely easy.

Best of all with RPRM is the ability to exchange to different Riu properties. This allowed us to experience different restaurants and beaches. We had a day in Cancun, and enjoyed visiting and dining at Riu Palace Las Americas.

Evening entertainment was surprisingly good, especially Maya Night. Other nights were entertaining enough that we didn't bother going out.

Riu has done a great job with this resort, and we hope everything will get better. We look forward to returning in the near future.

I recommend this hotel for:
An amazing honeymoon, A romantic getaway, Girlfriend getaway, People with disabilities, Older travelers, Great pool scene, Tourists
