Swim With Whale Sharks in Cancun
Swim with Whale Sharks in Cancun
Monday August 23, 2010
International Whale Shark Day is coming up on August 30th, and Cancun would be a great place to be right now, as this is prime season for a "swim with whale sharks" eco-tour.
From Cancun, visitors can do a day trip to nearby Isla Mujeres, on the Mayan Riviera's barrier reef -- the second largest barrier reef in the world. The snorkeling is always terrific along this coral reef; and from May into September, visitors have the chance for an unforgettable experience, swimming with these amazing (harmless!) giants of the sea. Kids as young as 7 or 8 can go. Guests can even participate in a conservation program to help this endangered species, by adding their photos to a global database.
Plan for next year: visit Cancun in July, and have fun at the annual Whale Shark Festival on Isla Mujeres, with plenty of activities.
Meanwhile, you can see a video about whale sharks -- and generally keep up with Cancun tourism-- at the Facebook page for the Cancun Convention and Visitors Bureau.
