Isla Mujeres Snorkeling

by Jeff
(Baltimore, MD, U.S.)

Isla Mujeres Snorkeling

I've only been to the Mayan Riviera once so I'm not an expert on diving and snorkeling. However, when I went on my vacation I did experience the best diving and snorkeling of my life. I've been snorkeling in the United States such as Key West, FL and that was nothing compared to my trip to the Yucatan Peninsula. Specifically, I went snorkeling at the Isla Mujeres location on the Yucatan Penisula. I had heard, before I went, that Isla Mujeres has amazing beaches and it's true. Even if you don't get out to snorkel the beach was amazing. If I had to put the scene in words I'd say, "Picture Perfect". The snorkeling was great except I didn't expect such a strong current. When I was snorkeling in the Keys there was little to no current so I had a more leisure swim. On the other hand, in Isla Mujeres I found myself working to adjust with the currents which is not always an easy task. Overall though, the trip to Isla Mujeres on the Yucatan Peninsula was one of my favorite trips in terms of snorkeling mainly because of the beautiful beach and water. If you're ever on the extreme east side of Playa del Carmen, I'd suggeset Isla Mujeres 100%. A trip I'll never forget and I'm sure you'll feel the same.

where on isla mujeres?
by: bvhawkins

Is there just one snorkeling beach? My family is going to Cancun this summer, we have been to Akumal and LOVED it, but have free accommodations in Cancun this time. There isn't any snorkeling off the beaches in Cancun, so it had been my intent to spend our days on isla mujeres. Will we be able to find the fabulous snorkeling fairly easily?

snorkeling in isla mujeres

I agree it was the best snorkeling I ever experienced. It was like swimming in a fish tank, so much to see. At one point my daughhter and I swam into a school of barracuda and were in complete amazement. The current was strong which made it more work, but worth it
