A relaxing vacation

by Dipie
(lakeland, florida, usa)

Last year I got the opportunity to take both my kids to a vacation in Mexico. Being a single working mother, I also wanted to use this time for relaxation. So we decided to spend one week at the Grand Mayan Riviera. It’s a huge and very well maintained place. I would recommend it to anyone for a family holiday. We reached there in late evening. We checked in and had dinner in our rooms. It was the next morning that we looked around the place. My kids loved exploring the resort. It’s a good idea to have a map because it could be difficult to find different areas in such a big resort. Staff is friendly but many of them don’t speak much English. Communication can be difficult at times but not impossible. There was so much to do - swimming in the BIG pool, beach activities, games in the kids area, scuba diving etc etc. When my kids were busy in the kids club, I got a chance to relax by the poolside. We had a 2 bedroom suite. Kids couldn't get enough of the Jacuzzi. We also had a cabana for a day, which was worth it. It was good to have a shopping center. We didn't expect the evenings to be that cool. So we had to buy some clothes. Room service was inexpensive and good. Food was okay, acceptable but nothing too good. There were several restaurants offering different cuisine. We tried Japanese and Mediterranean. I was warned by people about belongings getting stolen, so I didn’t carry any valuables. Housekeeping was good. Overall the whole experience was good. If I could change a few things, I would have had better food. Sometimes the size of the place made it harder to get around things because the shuttle buses were inconsistent. Overall, the holiday was worth the money spent on it.
